KUWAIT, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- Speaker of the National Assembly (parliament) Jassem Al-Kharafi received here on Thursday Canadian Senator Pana Merchant, Chairman of American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Emad Hamad, Chairperson of the Canadian-Arab Association against Discrimination Hala Seini.

During the meeting Al-Kharafi reviewed with his guests activities of the two associations in combating intolerance and all kinds of discrimination.

He appreciated the role of the two associations in protecting the Arab communities in North America, asserting that the NA backed their efforts.

Hamad invited Al-Kharafi to visit the Arab-American center in Michigan, the United States.

Al-Kharafi accepted the invitation and highlighted the importance of keeping in contact with the Kuwaiti public interest societies to support their campaign against racist discrimination.

Al-Kharafi also received Chairman of the Kuwaiti Teachers' Society and his party on the occasion of the KTS's hosting of the current conference of the International Islamic Teachers' Union.

The conference is being held under auspices of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The NA speaker received chief editor of Assawt daily Youssef Mohammad Al-Sameit, deputy chief editor Mohammad Al-Ajeiri on the occasion of the commencement of daily's publishing.

He wished the new newspaper would be a voice of justice and right and help promote the press development in Kuwait.

The meeting discussed several local and regional developments in the political, economic and social domains.
