KUWAIT, July 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Zakat House said Tuesday it provided KD 500,000 worth of aid to 7,684 needy families during the first months of 2008.
The deputy director of Zakat House's local projects and bodies department, Mohammad Al-Ajmi, told KUNA the aid included food, electronic devices and clothes.
The house donated 1,241,160 kilograms of food, that cost KD 532,785, consisting of rice, sugar, oil, milk, chicken, meat, lentil, tomato paste, tea, juice and canned food, he said.
He added that the house also distributed to poor families around 35,057 pieces of clothing and shoes that cost KD 59,780, as well as electronic devices such as refrigerators, washing machines, fans and heaters, valued at KD 54,252.
Al-Ajmi thanked the donors for their generous support and expressed his gratitude to one of the main contributors for his trust in the house, saying he donated KD 382,160 over the past months -- from which about 3,500 families benefited monthly.
