AMMAN, June 16 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti woman has the right to the post of a judge, a leading Kuwaiti female legal expert said on Saturday rejecting all justifications to deprive women of the post.

"Kuwaiti women have obtained their political rights and are seeking the judiciary to work side by side with men judges," attorney Fawzia Al-Shati told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of the third meeting of the Arab Women's Legal Network (AWLN) held in Amman.

She added that Kuwaiti women had found the way to the various fields of legal work in the state institutions as well as the private sector, adding "They have the legal, scientific and practical qualifications for the judge post."

She also pointed to the political support Kuwaiti women enjoyed considering it a momentum to their efforts to the judiciary.

Meanwhile, Al-Shati underlined the importance of the AWLN Amman gathering that started on Wednesday for enhancing the abilities and skills of the member female legal experts through the exchange of expertise with counterparts from other Arab countries.

The Arab Women's Legal Network is a non-profit, nongovernmental regional entity that aims to facilitate the advancement of Arab women working in the legal field.

The Network brings together judges, legal practitioners, legal advisors in government and nongovernmental organizations, legal academics and other qualified women working in the legal field by providing a forum for the exchange of expertise, the provision of specialized training and professional development programs and the publication of materials aimed at strengthening Arab women in the law.
