JEDDAH: The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has officially assigned Kuwait to supervise its endowment projects in the Islamic world, said a Kuwaiti official on the sidelines of the 8th Conference of Ministers of Endowments and Islamic Affairs currently taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Adel Al-Falah, the Undersecretary of Kuwait's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, said the Kuwaiti Awqaf Public Foundation has participated in various endowment projects such as submitting a plan to issue a database of the endowment projects established in the Islamic world, noting that the meeting's participants had welcomed the idea and it has been approved in coordination with Saudi Arabia.

Kuwait is also expected to present five projects to the executive office of the Religious Endowment Ministers, Al-Falah added. Al-Falah affirmed the vital contribution of the different countries' Awqaf and Islamic affairs ministries to their respective societies, especially if they follow a clear strategy.

Kuwait presented a report on the image of Muslims and Islam in the West to the endowment ministers' executive council, Al-Falah said, noting that the ministers requested that the report be given to a research institute to serve Islam and Muslims. Kuwait has always called for religious moderation, he added, urging the ministers to visit Kuwait to exchange expertise on the country's endowment system.

Meanwhile, in Kuwait itself, MP Mohammed Hayef described renovation procedures carried out on a Mubarak Al-Kabeer mosque as a deliberate violation of the country's laws. He laid the blame for what he called the illegal behavior on Municipality Minister Dr Fadhil Al-Safar, saying that the minister had mentioned the issue before boasting of his achievements at the ministry.

The MP said that this violation is not the first one to be conducted by the municipality since a lot of unacceptable decisions have been taken by it, reported Al-Watan. He also claimed that the ministry has not addressed the issue properly.
