KUWAIT: While investigations into the case of the terror plot against the Arifjan Camp and State Security Service are continuing, another unwelcome development has surfaced, after MP Dr. Maasouma Al-Mubarak received an abusive threatening letter from an unknown person, which also included threatens to her fellow female MPs, Dr. Rola Dashti and Dr. Aseel Al-Awadhi. In the meantime, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad met with Lt Suleiman Al-Muhailan, to discuss the details of the terrorist cell and the plots of its members, a meeting that also featured the Minister of Defense, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak and the Foreign Minister, Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Al-Sabah.

HH the Prime Minister has emphasized the importance of raising the security alert level to combat any threat to national security, said an official. The Premier has given the country's security services the green light to take all the necessary measures and introduce whatever procedures are necessary to maintain state security.

A Ministry of Interior (MoI) official indicated that the ministry is planning to take strong measures to fight sectarianism, with the threatening email and other items sent to Al-Mubarak being the latest indication of rising sectarian tensions. Al-Mubarak lodged an official complaint at Salhiya police station after receiving the abusive and threatening e-mail.

Al-Mubarak told local daily Al-Aan. "I received an email at the National Assembly address in my name, which included sentences that may cause confusion and strife in our beloved country. At this time, I call for unity in combating any attempts to instigate strife and separate us. I stress that the most important thing we have to do as Kuwaitis is to preserve our national unity and ignore attempts to put a wedge of differences between us and encourage sectarian strife. I am confident that the security autho
rities are competent enough, and I trust my fellow citizens and their eagerness to ensure Kuwait's security and safety." She also warned against allowing the country to be "hijacked by those who seek to spread disorder and destabilize national security.

A security official revealed that, along with the email which she handed over to the police, Al-Mubarak also submitted an envelope which she had received at her National Assembly office containing two doctored photographs of her, one depicting her with a beard and another with Stars of David on her hands. The photos are believed to have been sent by the same person who sent the threatening e-mail.

In a separate letter, the MP received threats to harm and kill her, along with accusations that, along with fellow parliamentarians Rola Dashti and Dr. Aseel Al-Awadhi, she had received financial support from the American embassy during the parliamentary elections.

The original copies of all the documents and photographs have been sent to the State Security Department to determine the sender/s and bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, security officials are reportedly questioning five more individuals suspected of having connections to the recently detained terror cell members. The Public Prosecution Department has ordered that these five detainees be held for questioning and further investigation until Sunday, reported Al-Qabas.

A senior security official ruled out the possibility that the terror cell members' plots could have any effect on talks between the US and Kuwait over the release of the remaining Kuwaiti detainees in the Guantanamo Bay prison camp. The official said that the recent talks included discussion of the supervision that was used to monitor one former Guantanamo Bay inmate, who was involved in a suicide bomb attack last year in Iraq.
