MoI honours pilots for completing 500 flying hours

KUWAIT CITY:  The Interior Ministry recently installed six hi-tech machines for detecting plastic explosives and other forbidden items at Kuwait Internatio-nal Airport in a move to step up security efforts and modernize the security system at the airport to ensure the safety of passengers, reports Al-Wasat. Indicating the Ministry spent KD 1.5 million to purchase the machines, reliable sources said airport security authorities, who will operate the machines, were required to complete a rigorous training on how to handle the machines before they were installed at various areas in the airport.

Meanwhile, sources said the Operations Department at Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) and Civil Aviation condemned the mistake committed by air traffic controllers who signaled two aircraft to land at the same time that could have led to a tragic accident.  Sources said the concerned authorities are conducting a thorough investigation on the incident to punish those who made the mistake.

Information
KAC officials declined to divulge any information about the pilot who manned the flight from Dubai until completion of the investigation. In the meantime, the Interior Ministry yesterday organized a ceremony to award certificates to six pilots, who have completed 500 hours flying in police aircraft, says Al-Anba. The event was held under the patronage of Assistant Undersecretary for Operations Affairs Major  General  Musaed Al-Mashan, the daily adds.

Congratulated
Al-Mashan congratulated the pilots and said "Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior and Defense Sheikh  Jaber Mubarak  Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah has pledged his support to you." Undersecretary of Interior Lieutenant General Nasser Al-Othman played a vital role in implementing the successful implementation of the training programme and achieving the objectives of the police aircraft, he added.

He urged the pilots to continue their preparation for different security tasks, saying "you should be cautious, work in peace and cooperate with other security agencies of the Interior Ministry."

Acting General Manager of the General Department of Central Operations  Colonel Jamal Al-Saegh was present on the occasion.
