YABOUS STATION (Syrian-Lebanese border), Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Volunteers of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) are providing aid around the clock to displaced Lebanese on the Syria border, now heading back to their homes after the declaration of the ceasefire.
The volunteers, dressed in white shirts bearing the KRCS emblem, are also helping Syrians, Arabs, and foreigners who had to leave Lebanon after the Israeli aggression commenced with utmost proficiency and strong will.
Every meal and helping of water is delivered by the volunteers with a smile and words of congratulations on the closeness of their return home.
Deputy head of KRCS mission Musaed Al-Enizi told KUNA that food presented to those heading back to Lebanon was mostly bought from local markets, adding that those coming into Syria were being helped by a team from the Syrian Red Crescent Society (SRCS).
He noted that from the first day of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, and under instructions from His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, KRCS commenced the dispatch of aid through air bridges and land bridges to help the Lebanese overcome this hardship.
Moreover, he said aid was being given distributed in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Embassy in Damascus and SRCS, as well as with the International Red Cross Society and the UN World Food Program (WFP) office.
Al-Enizi said that the 14th aid batch crossed the border checkpoint early this morning after the road destroyed in Israeli raids was reconstructed, explaining that the batch included 200 tons of food and other basic requirements.
For his part, volunteers Jamal Bilal, Ali Al-Fouderi, Abdullah Al-Dulami, Saad Al-Qahtani, and the 17 year old Khalid Mutar expressed their joy at having had the opportunity to take part in these humanitarian efforts.
They described this as being their national responsibility and that it was important for Arab states to stand by each other in such difficult circumstances, noting the honorable stance of Lebanon when Kuwait was invaded in 1990.
Meanwhile, Lebanese citizen Abdul-Mutalib Abu Nasif said that he would not forget the stance of Kuwait and how its support for his country was always strong in times of war and peace, praying that Kuwait and its people continue to prosper.
In the meantime, members of the WFP, International Red Cross Society, and the UNICEF present at the border crossing commenced Kuwait's initiative to distribute food at this location, adding that it was the only organization that was operating buses to transport the displaced returning to Lebanon.
