KUWAIT CITY - The Ministry of Public Works has been continuing its efforts to stop the flow of water to the Mishref sewage plant after the level of water reached a height of two meters. In a new attempt by the Ministry, workers aim to fix the problem by inserting a new cement manhole into the previous one that leads to the plant, paving the way to insert a ball and fill it with air to cover up the holes and stop water from reaching the plant. According to sources, the two meter height has been kept steady by engineers and has not risen in the recent past. They said this step came after the Ministry inserted a cement manhole at a depth of ten meters, shaped like an ice-house and surrounded by a strong cement exterior. The outcome of this procedure is expected to be known within the next two days.
The sources added it is a matter of shame for the first contractor who gave the project up instead of supporting the Ministry during this time of crisis. On the other hand, the sources said the officials at the Ministry of Public Works met the contractor who designed the plant on Monday to collect information about the structure. They added another meeting with the leaders of the health engineering sector and the Kuwaiti diving team Monday evening revealed the diving team faced the obstacles due to lack of security and safety measures in the face of turbulent water currents. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works also received a French delegation on Monday that visited the country to offer its services to win the tender to operate and manage the Mishref sewage plant.
