KUWAIT: Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee MP Mubarak Al-Khurainej yesterday lauded His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah's successful tour of the GCC countries. Al-Khurainej said the trip came at the right time, bearing in mind the current turbulent situation in the Arab region.
We hope His Highness the Premier will make this kind of tour every six months or annually as we are in need of such meetings, said the MP On the official Iraqi opposition to the construction of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, Al-Khurainej said As most members of the foreign affairs committee are out of the country, I appeal to the Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Sabah to adopt a clear stance on this issue and make an official statement to answer those officials.
On the controversy over the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, another parliamentarian, Khalid Al-Adwa, said, Our government must go ahead with the Mubarak Al-Kabeer project, as it is one of the strategic projects in Boubyan Island, in our territorial waters. He added, Kuwait must not pay attention to the hatred and the inferiority complex from Iraq in objecting to this project.
Meanwhile, fellow MP Ahmad Al-Saadoun asked Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Al-Sabah about statements attributed to a leader of the Yemeni opposition, who suggested that GCC officials threatened their own countries with a Bahrain-style scenario if they did not sign the Gulf initiative. This statement, if true, makes many indication and raise many questions about what it means, said Al-Saadoun. I ask you to declare how true the Yemeni opposition members statement is, and if it is true
then what does the Bahraini scenario mean.
Meanwhile, the leader of Iraq's parliamentary White bloc Hassan Al-Alawi criticized statements by the blocs spokesperson Alia Nasif in which she demanded that the Kuwait Ambassador in Iraq be changed. He questioned the motives behind such a statement and asked who would benefit from them. Such statements are personal and aim at involving the bloc in very dangerous issues, he said.
Al-Alawi said that Nasif did not consult with other bloc members prior to making her statement and was not authorized to make any statement on Iraq-Kuwait relations. The bloc head said that he found it strange that Nasif would concentrate on one particular topic in a way that makes one wonder about this insistence on focusing on issues of Iraq-Kuwait relations and the motives behind this focus.
