University don urges media to engage in constructive reporting
KUWAIT CITY, June 13: Ministry of Education is set to implement the new salary scales recently approved for teachers by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), reports Al-Shahid daily.
The daily quoting the Undersecretary at Ministry of Education Tumader Al-Sedrawi explained the new increment is KD 90 and with additional KD 10 annual allowance. She stressed the ministry has completed a study on the proportion of increment for expatriate teachers to regulate their salaries.
Meanwhile, the overseas recruitment committees will leave the country next month to hire teachers in their various specialties from Egypt and Tunisia.
The Head of Mass Communications in Kuwait University Dr Munawer Al-Rahiji has urged the satellite stations and daily newspapers to engage in constructive reporting and analysis, instead of covering mere events, writes Al-Seyassah daily.
In an interview with the daily, Al-Rahiji warned the media on the manner it reports the Friday protests, and stressed that the satellite media is making a mess of the ethics of journalism by fuelling sectarianism and character assassinations.
He said the time is ripe for a new audio-visual law, and pointed out that amending the current law would affect many of its articles, and "It would be best drafting a new law entirely".
He urged the Ministry of Information to be steadfast in its monitoring role since Kuwait can not withstand external intrusion.
He stressed that any foreign sponsor of the media does so with specific agenda, reiterating the government must establish a state newspaper to serve as its mouthpiece to reply to the barrage of accusations leveled against its members.
The daily could also employ graduates of mass communications from Kuwait University.
