BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--State-owned Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co., or Kufpec, is currently drilling an exploration well in the North Kairouan Concession in Tunisia at a depth of 2,400 meters and the outcome will be known next month, Kuwait-based An Nahar daily reports Wednesday citing an executive.

Once the results of the drilling are known another exploration well will be drilled in the Sidi El Kilani field to make sure there is oil in the deep layers, Ali Al Shammari, Kufpec's acting managing director, said according to the paper.

The Tunisian government has promised to open new horizons for the company in other parts of the country if drilling of the Sidi El Kilani well leads to successful results and if the well's production feasibility is proved, Shammari added.

The crude of the Sidi Kilani field is considered of a good quality as it has a density of 39 degrees on the quality scale of the American Petroleum Institute, An Nahar reports.

The daily cites Shammari as saying that his company has produced 50 million barrels of oil in Tunisia so far.
