CAPITALS, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Prominent Arab and Gulf and Kuwaiti figures lamented on Monday the late Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and agreed that he was a unique and distinctive leader.
Former Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdelmeguid said that the late Amir left his fingerprints all over the Arab area through his persistent call for unity.
Lebanese Premier Fuad Al-Siniora focused on the humanitarian characteristics and pan-Arab stances of late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Former GCC Secretary General Sheikh Fahem Al-Qasimi said the late Amir worked hard for establishing the GCC and making the gulf aspirations materialize.
Advisor to the King of Bahrain Nabil Al-Hamar said the late Amir laid the cornerstone of the GCC and urged for Arab unity and interaction.
Kuwaiti National Assembly speaker Jasem Al-Kharafi said despite the bitterness of the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the late Amir succeeded in luring world support for the gulf state that came under aggression.
Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said on this occasion that the late Amir was the center of all the tireless efforts made to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi heinous invasion and reminded of his remarkable stance at the United Nations at the time.
Former Kuwaiti ambassador to the UN and advisor to H.H. the Amir of Kuwait Mohammad Abulhasan said that the late Amir was the one who protected the Kuwaiti legitimacy through his wise moves hours after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
In the Moroccan capital Rabat, media figures agreed in statements to Kuna, on the prominent status of the late Kuwaiti Amir at the Arab Islamic and international levels.
Chief Executive of Diplomatic Affairs daily Ahmad Sammani said that the late Amir had insight in how to lead with wisdom in addition to his highly diplomatic and modest personality.
Chief Executive of Akhbar Tamara daily said the late Amir was one of the most famous leaders of the Arab and Islamic nations.
Former Moroccan Education Minister Mohammad Kneidri singled out to Kuna the late Amir as one who dedicated himself for serving the interests of his country as well as the Arab and international issues.
Former Dean of Qazi University in Marrakesh said that the late Amir was known for his unwavering stances concerning several issues that serve the interests of the Arab and Islamic people.
Head of the Lebanese Mustaqbal bloc MP Saad Al-Hariri said in a statement released on the occasion of the first memorial of the passing away of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, that his compatriots would never forget the support of the late Amir for Lebanon.
He reminded of the historic relations between the late Amir and his father late Prime Minister Rafik Al-Hariri.
He concluded by saying "Our only consolation is that H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is pursuing the march of leading Kuwait to progress, growth and prosperity."
