MOSCOW, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- Representative of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait's ambassador to Russia Nasser Al-Muzayyen, participated in the opening of the Grand Mosque in Grozny, capital of Chechnya, on Friday.

Al-Muzayyen, in a phone call with KUNA, said Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov invited Sheikh Sabah to the opening of Al-Majd Mosque, and that he represented the Amir in the inauguration of Europe's largest Islamic structure.

"I was honored to convey greetings of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti leadership for the Chechen president and the people of the Republic of Chechnya on this occasion," he said.

Al-Majd Mosque, named after late Chechen president Ahmad kadyrov, can host 10,000 worshippers.

Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin visited the mosque earlier today.

The building of the mosque consists of the administration of the Chechen Muslims, an Islamic institute, a library, a hotel and campus for students of religious schools.
