Statement puts to rest rumours some nationalities are banned from residence renewal

KUWAIT CITY, May 26: Expatriates with valid residence permits have the right to renew these permits regardless of their nationalities, reports Al-Anba daily quoting acting Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs in the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdullah Al-Rashed.

Al-Rashed made the statement in his meeting with the directors of immigration departments in various governorates recently.  He said all expatriates who want to renew their residence permits can do so, provided they do not have any legal problems. He pointed out it has become necessary to set the records straight due to rumors that certain nationalities are no longer allowed to renew their residence permits. He believes these rumors surfaced after the ministry issued a decision to stop the issuance of visit and work visas to some nationalities.

According to Al-Rashed, the ministry has temporarily suspended the issuance of visit and work visas to Syrians, Iranians, Iraqis, Pakistanis and Afghans, without any exception, due to the current situation in their countries.
