3 centers fail to cut 'Al-Razi' pressure

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 12: Al-Razi Hospital still caters to a high number of patients despite the establishment of three orthopedic centers at Jahra, Adan and Farwaniya hospitals, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting Director of the hospital Dr Ammar Al-Baroun.

Al-Baroun disclosed the concerned officials have criticized the implementation of the expansion and upgrading project based on the 2008 statistics rather than the current data. He explained the 2008 statistics show that Al-Razi received 310,000 patients every year within the period of study. He said these patients included 183,000 admitted to the general and specialized clinics and 126,000 to the accident centers.

Stating the hospital carried out 17,000 surgeries within the same year, Al-Baroun said Al-Razi handles an average of 47 surgeries daily, including the removal of tumors and treatment of sports-related injuries. He revealed the hospital has a total of 881 doctors, nurses and administrative staff, who deal with patients from the Capital and Hawally governorates, in addition to referrals from Al-Sabah Hospital.  He also unveiled the Ministry of Health's plan to establish two orthopedic centers at Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Amiri hospitals to reduce pressure on Al-Razi.
