ABU DHABI, Nov 1st, 2010: Kalima, the translation project of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), has published the Arabic translation of the book entitled "The Principles of Quantum Mechanics" by author and researcher Paul Dirac.

The book is a model work that deals with the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics. It is an important source for researchers.

According to the British Journal of Nature, when the first edition appeared the book was quickly recognized as one of the classics of modern physics theory, thanks to its originality. The books fourth edition, containing some amendments, was printed to meet a huge demand. One of the most important amendments was the re-writing of a full chapter about the quantum of electrodynamics in order to add the production of electron pairs.

This makes the book an appropriate prelude to contemporary works about quantum field theories.

This book is a must for students of higher degrees, researchers and experts. They will find it a valuable source of knowledge and encouragement.

Paul Dirac was born in Bristol, England in August 8, 1902. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Bristol, and completed his degree in 1921. He then studied mathematics for a year. In 1923, he became a researcher at St John's College, Cambridge. In 1925, he first published his research on the basic laws of new quantum mechanics. A year later, Dirac received a Ph.D. from Cambridge.

In 1927, he laid the foundations of relativistic quantum mechanics. He proposed the Dirac equation as a relativistic equation of motion for the wave-function of the electron. In 1928, he developed the Theory of Electron Spin and predicted the existence of the positron (the positive equivalent of the electron) after solving the Dirac Equation. The positron was observed by Carl Anderson in 1932. In 1933, Dirac shared the Nobel Prize for physics with Erwin Schr?dinger.

Dirac was a Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at St Johns College in Cambridge until 1969. He also lectured at the Florida State University in 1971.

He visited numerous countries as a lecturer and researcher. He wrote several important books, including his first book "The Principles of Quantum Mechanics" in 1930, which he continued revising until 1967. His last book "The General Theory of Relativity" was published in 1975. Dirac died in October 20, 1984.

Both Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al A'qr and Dr. Abdul Shafi Fahmi Abadah contributed to the translation of Diracs book.

Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al A'qr graduated in 1966 in Physical Chemistry from the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. He obtained a Ph.D. in X-ray Spectrum in 1973 from the University of Lvov in the former Soviet Union. He published more than 70 papers in both Egyptian and international journals and is currently a fulltime professor of Physics in the Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University.

Dr. Abdul Shafi Fahmi Abadah graduated in 1962 in mathematics from the Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University. He received a Ph.D. in philosophy in 1967 from the University Of Manchester, United Kingdom and another Ph.D. in sciences in 1994 from the same university. He is currently a fulltime professor of mathematics in the Faculty of Science, Al-Azhar University. He published many papers in applied mathematics and theoretical physics, particularly in the field of quantum optics and quantum information.
