Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi on Thursday welcomed a United States congressional delegation for two days of bi-lateral discussions, the Tripoli Post reported on Friday (August 14th). "We discussed the possibility of moving ahead with the provision of non-lethal defence equipment to the government of Libya," Senator John McCain was quoted by AP as saying at a news conference. The senator also noted that "ties between the United States and Libya have taken a remarkable and positive turn in recent years".

In related news, as Kadhafi prepares to make his first-ever trip to the US next month, security officials are trying to decide whether the Libyan leader will be able to pitch his Bedouin tent in New York City's Central Park, Newsweek reported on Sunday (August 16th). Kadhafi will be in New York to address the United Nations.
