Amman - Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania joined Jordan River Foundation (JRF) supporters and friends on Wednesday in celebrating the foundation's decade of successful socio-economic community and development projects across Jordan.

A documentary showcasing JRF's projects and achievements over the years, from its various community empowerment programmes, to its child safety prevention and awareness initiatives was screened at the 10th anniversary celebration.

The documentary featured Her Majesty's long- time support for the foundation as well as the powerful impact of JRF-initiated projects on the local communities.

In her welcoming remarks, JRF Director General Maha Khatib noted that the richness of the JRF experience can be attributed to the will and determination of men and women in the local communities in overcoming the odds, and in realising their dreams and aspirations.

Khatib also spoke of the Queen's vision and commitment and her trust in the JRF team. She also thanked the larger "JRF family" for their critical role in realising the work of JRF.

Building on the achievements of its Child Safety Programme, the JRF is currently planning a new facility for the Child Safety Centre, Dar Al Aman, which to date is the only shelter for abused children in the region.

Future directions also include counselling and family support services, and addressing the lack of a professional cadre for child safety by working with institutions of higher education. On that front, the JRF is currently working with the University of Jordan in collaboration with universities in the UK to update bachelor degree disciplines in the area of social services.

The foundation seeks to expand and enhance programme-based partnerships with national organisations and enhance its networks at the regional and international levels. Recently, the JRF signed an agreement with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation to implement projects within the Integrated Local Development Projects in Poverty Pockets initiative.
