Aqaba - Jordanian authorities are investigating an illegal departure of a ship from Aqaba port without taking clearance from or contacting concerned authorities. Director-General of the Jordan Maritime Authority, Mu'atasim al-Sakit said that the captain of "Sour" ship asked the port's staff to readjust the ship's moorage but after 15 minutes the radar operator discovered that the ship's onboard tracking device had been shut off. Al-Sakit added that the radar operator called the Royal Naval Force and in the meantime the vessel had left territorial waters.
Al-Sakit explained that the ship's papers are held by the authority and no port in the world can receive the vessel without the required documents.
The vessel which raises the flag of Liberia, entered Aqaba on 16.8.2011 laden with 18,000 tones of maize but was not allowed to unload its cargo because it did not meet Jordanian standards.
