Abu Dhabi: Kuwait's budget carrier Jazeera Airways on Tuesday announced that it is starting flights to Kochi, its third destination in India.

The airline will fly three times a week from Kuwait City to Kochi in the southern Indian state of Kerala starting August 30, with fares starting at 10 Kuwaiti dinars.

"The new national airline of Kuwait, which began operations to India last July with direct flights to Mumbai and New Delhi, will fly to Kochi on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays," an airline statement said.

"Kochi is an important addition to our tourist destinations. The city is rated among the top three tourist destinations by the World Travel and Tourism Council and featured in National Geographic Traveller's '50 greatest places of a lifetime'," said Bader Al Mershed, Jazeera Airways vice president for industry affairs.

The Kochi route is part of Jazeera Airways' aggressive expansion after receiving two new aircraft from Airbus in June and July, bringing the airline's fleet to four new Airbus A320s.

The launch of flights to Mashad, Iran, and Assiut, Egypt, this month and the increase in flights to Damascus and Alexandria in addition to doubling flights to Dubai in the last two months are all also part of this strategy.

With the launch of flights to Kochi, the 10 month old airline will fly to 13 destinations, eight of which were added in the last six months.
