Zarqa, March 29 (Petra)

The Japanese government on Thursday signed an agreement with the Jordanian Woman Program Center (WPC) for the reconstruction of Kindergarten in Marka Refugee Camp.

Under the agreement, signed by Japanese Embassy's Charge de affairs Kiyoshi Asako and WPC President Halimi Muraab, the $106,285 grant will be used to reconstruct and rehabilitate the Kindergarten to increase its capacity of children and provide an educational environment where pre-school children can study and play safely and healthy.

Asako said that through this project we expect that the Kindergarten and the WPC will make greater contribution to accelerate financial independence of women.

Under Japanese grant assistance for grass-roots human security projects, Japan has extended more than $8 million for 128 projects to non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals and local governments in Jordan since 1993, he added.

Muraab expressed her appreciation for the Japanese government's support, voicing hope the grant will help achieve the WPC's goals.

The WPC was established in 1989 as a non-profit and non-governmental organization, providing several services to promote financial independence of woman in Jordan.
