BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army received a donation of digital mine detectors and explosive sniffers from Italy at a ceremony at the Military Band’s barracks in Karantina, in Beirut Thursday.

The donation – worth nearly 500 euros – consists of 138 complete kits of digital mine detectors CEIA MIL-D1 and 4 explosive sniffers FIDO XT, with 6 kits of supporting materials.

Equipment training sessions and technical assistance are also available. The kits were donated as part of a bilateral defense cooperation agreement signed between Italy and Lebanon last June.

The detectors are considered one of the best in its field in terms of detection, ease of operation, reliability, and ease of maintenance. In 2007, 150 mine detectors were donated by Italy to the Lebanese National Demining Office.
