The Islamic University of Medina, in Saudi Arabia is currently implementing a number of on-campus projects, valued at a total of USD 280 million (SAR 1.05 billion), with some set to be completed in 2013, a source familiar with the projects told Zawya.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said that the Saudi Arabian ministry of higher education has approved a total of SAR 1.05 billion for the university's intended projects such as the completion of the second phase of faculty housing, estimated to be around SAR 365 million.
Other projects included the construction of a central library at a cost of SAR 24 million, the completion of the Faculty of the Holy Quran for SAR 17.6 million, the establishment of a Faculty of Arabic Languagefor SAR 43.2 million, the completion of phases five, six and seven of the construction and furnishing of student dormitories for over SAR 134 million, and the construction of three buildings for additional faculty housing at a total cost of SAR 75 million. Another project involves the completion of the fourth phase of the faculty residences at a cost of SAR 38 million.
For this current fiscal year (2013/2014), the Saudi government has allocated USD 3.57 billion (SAR 13.4 billion) for projects related to higher education. The budget includes financing of 15 new colleges and the construction of new faculty housing, as well as the construction of three new university hospitals.
