BAGHDAD, Jan 29 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Presidency on Tuesday approved a law to change Iraqi flag, which was passed by the parliament last week.
"The Republic Presidency Council on Tuesday approved the new flag law," Presidential Staff Chief Nusair al-Ani said.
Al-Ani told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that a presidential decree okaying the new Iraqi flag had been made.
The one-year decree will be in effect once it is published in the Iraqi official gazette, a thing which will take place within the coming few days, he added.
According to the new presidential decree, the three stars of the Iraqi flag will be removed, but the phrase Allah Akbar or God is Greater will remain intact.
The Iraqi parliament has recently passed a proposed bill to reshape the Iraqi flag with a majority of 110 out of 165 deputies.
The current Iraqi flag contains three colors of red, white and black, with three stars on the white. The phrase Allah Akbar was introduced by Saddam Hussein following the 1991 Gulf War.
