Basra, Feb. 23 (AKnews) - Hundreds of employees of Rafidain and Rashid banks protested on Wednesday near their banks at the center of Basra, demanding the improvement of their living situation through several demands.
Samia Radi, the Associate Director of Rafidain Bank told AKnews that the employees of all branches announced their strike and stopped working.
"The employees gathered near Babil Lion (Asad) statue at the center of Asshar and all their demands are considered legitimate that should be taken into consideration by the concerned authorities."
Furthermore, Mithaq Jaafar, an employee at the Rafidain bank revealed to AKnews about the demands filed by the protestors most notably "activation of grades and including the certificates within the salary scale, returning production incentives, and calculating additional fourth salry and not linking it to any condition."
"We demand of making the housing loan as a grant to employees and officials like the members of the parliament, in addition to re-considering the transport allocations."
"The Rasheed Bank announced its protest two days ago and it is continuing and the ending date of the protest is not specified yet. Most of our demands are about the terms that were adopted before but they were canceled after 2003."
The number of demonstrators exceeded 400 employees who belong to the Rafidain Bank in its three branches, as well as the Rasheed Bank, noting that each bank has approximately 100 employees.
Basra province (405 km south of Baghdad) witnessed on Sunday the protest of dozens of employees of the General Commission for Taxes - Basra branch within their circles, demanding of better services and improving their conditions .
