The Iranian and Kuwaiti speakers of parliament on Saturday held talks on broadening parliamentary cooperation.

Iran's Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel and Kuwaiti Speaker of Majlis Al-Umma (National Assembly) Jasem Al-Kharafi discussed ways to develop parliamentary cooperation.

Al-Kharafi voiced his country's interest in consolidating all-out relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and said there exists huge untapped potentials which should be explored for expansion of bilateral ties.

He said that Tehran-Kuwait City relations should not merely focus on border issues or continental shelf and that issues such as expansion of economic and commercial ties should be put on top of the agenda.

The Kuwaiti speaker said that Kuwaiti investors are willing to make investment in Iranian real estate sector.

"We hope the Iranian Majlis would pass the relevant bill to help business promotion between the two countries."

Given Iran's influence in the region, he said "We hope the Islamic Republic of Iran which plays an effective role in the region would make efforts to help resolve the catastrophic situation in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine."

The Iranian Majlis speaker, for his part, underlined that Tehran calls for consolidation of ties with members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) mainly Kuwait.

Haddad Adel said that it is about 28 years that the enemies of Islam have rushed to the Persian Gulf region to tarnish ties between neighboring states but Iran is quite confident that the Kuwaiti officials, who always exercise wise and rational policy, would foil their plots.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is the hub of of scientific, cultural and commercial cooperation among countries in the region, he said.

He voiced Iran's readiness to further broaden comprehensive cooperation with the members of the PGCC.

Iranian Majlis speaker, heading a delegation, arrived in Kuwait City on Friday to confer with the country's high ranking officials on expansion of bilateral and regional cooperation.
