MASHHAD -- Iranian technicians have managed to produce the Piezo electronic speedometer sensor.

Akbar Amini, the manager heading the research team, said the sensor will be used to estimate earthquake intensity, car velocity when braking and vibrations in airplanes, IRIB reported.

He noted that the unconventional vibration in engines, turbines and cooling systems can be detected by the new sensor, which is the outcome of a year and a half of research. "All the electronic parts and materials used in the sensor have been produced inside Iran," he said, adding that the sensor changes the vibration into an electronic pulse which is processed by the electrical circuit.
