Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi on Saturday condemned destruction and desecration of mausoleum of Hujr ibn Adi in the Damascus suburb of Adra, by extremist groups in Syria.
In separate letters to the UN Chief Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director-General Irina Bokova, on Saturday, Salehi called for condemnation of the inhumane and immoral act by international institutions and organizations.
He called on them to take concrete actions in that connection.ˈSuch moves would fan flames of sectarian conflicts among followers of great divine religions.ˈ International organizations should safeguard the sacred places of Islam and Christianity, he added.
He said that preserving sanctities would guarantee peaceful co-existence among followers of different religions.
