Tehran - The big event in the world's cotton market - the First International Uzbek Cotton Fair will take place in Tashkent. It will be held at the exhibition center "Uzexpocenter" on October 10-11, 2005.

The fair is organized by the government of Uzbekistan and the company "Cotton Outlook", one of the most authoritative publications on the issues of cotton industry.

Cotton production and cotton processing industry traditionally take one of the important places in Uzbekistan's economy. After gaining its independence Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Islam Karimov headed for radical modernization of the sector. Market relations have changed the approach to cotton growing, processing of cotton fiber and production of various goods.

Thus, over the last years selectionists of the republic created a number of promising sorts of cotton, which are distinguished not only by high crop capacity but also the best quality of fiber. Scientists also contribute to the common course by developing new and more efficient means of plant protection.

Processing and textile enterprises are provided by the most modern equipment.

New advanced technologies are being introduced to enhance the quality of cotton products and their competitiveness in the word market.

Great importance is attached to the development foreign economic relations, which is evident by the growth of foreign investment into this sector. Domestic cotton producers continue to establish relations with new foreign partners who are interested in expanding fruitful cooperation since they consider Uzbekistan as a reliable economic partner. Trade mechanisms are constantly elaborated, including introduction of guaranteed supply schemes and increase in the number of transport corridors. While in the recent past Uzbekistan exported its cotton to mainly countries of the EU, nowadays its geography is considerably expanded.

Rapidly developing textile industries of India, China, Pakistan and other countries in Southeast Asia have great demand for Uzbek cotton.

Today Uzbekistan ranks sixth in the world in cotton production and second in its exports. Therefore, the First International Uzbek Cotton Fair will undoubtedly attract great attention of foreign business circles. Numerous companies, firms and enterprises from countries of Southeast Asia, CIS, and Europe have already expressed wish to take part in the forthcoming event.

According to the Organizing Committee of the fair, its main goal includes concluding contracts on supply of cotton fiber, further developing long-term trade relations. Consumers of Uzbek cotton will get acquainted with its quality standards, newest innovations in the sphere of production, trade and logistics. A large consignment of Uzbekistan-grown cotton will be exhibited at the fair.

Besides, participants of the fair will have the opportunity to conclude long-term contracts with Uzbek exporters on the supply of cotton of next crop.
