The Iranian airline Iran Air is to resume flights from Bushehr to the Iraqi city of Najaf as of August 29 after four years, said the director general of the company's Bushehr branch.
Ahmad Mahouzi added on Saturday that the flight will be operated by Airbus 360 with a capacity of 140 pilgrims to Iraqi holy sites, IRNA reported.
"At the beginning, the flight is to be operated once a week. However, in case demands grow, the number will increase," he said.
He noted that arrangements have been made to transport Bushehr province's pilgrims for performing the major Haj on Sept. 24 and 25.
Mahouzi added that the flights will be operated by Boeing 747 and Airbus.
"This year, more than 700 pilgrims will travel to Mecca to perform their greater Hajj."
Iran Air's Bushehr branch conducts 26 round trips to Tehran, Shiraz and Isfahan.
Iran Air is the flag carrier airline of Iran, operating services to 80 destinations. The airline's cargo fleet, operated by subsidiary Iran Air Cargo, operates services to 20 scheduled and 5 chartered destinations.
Its main bases are Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport for international flights and Tehran's
Mehrabad Airport for domestic flights. It is headquartered on the premises of Mehrabad Airport.
