With a strong track record of hosting international cricket matches and its state-of-the-art cricket stadia, the UAE has always been a great destination for this sport and now, the excitement factor has been turned up several notches with the announcement of the Indian Premiere League’s (IPL) debut on UAE’s pitches.
In its seventh season, the IPL, with a flamboyant history, is arriving in the UAE on April 16, with the first leg of 16 matches to be played here. This is more confirmation of the coming of age of UAE’s cricketing credentials. The show stoppers in recent times — the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2013 and the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014 — had already pitched the UAE into the top-drawer of cricketing venues. The IPL arrival then extends the field of dreams for lovers of this sport. What’s more, these kind of developments can only boost the aspirations of the UAE’s national cricket team that has already made the cut in international matches and qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Yoke all these factors to the super chunk of cricket fans in the UAE and the roar of the audience in the stands is a phenomenon, simply waiting to be heard.
