With the UAE constantly adopting new technologies to move towards its vision of becoming paperless by 2021, companies in the country have reduced their paper trail by adopting new and innovative technologies that are not only environment friendly, but also cost and time-efficient. In lieu of the same, Invoiz - a paperless initiative, aims to bring about a conscious shift that promotes the use of e-receipts in place of paper receipts.
"Once, when my washing machine broke down, I needed to know whether it was in the warranty period and for that, I required the original receipt. I did find it - however, it had lost all important content being a thermal paper receipt. To complicate matters further, the service centre number and warranty details on the receipt were not legible. What followed next was history.
"However, this convinced me that I was faced with an inconvenience and I had an opportunity to come up with an environmentally-friendly solution that would make saving and storing receipts easy, ultimately leading us to develop Invoiz," said Ryan Ribeiro, executive director of Invoiz.
Invoiz is a cost-effective, cloud-based paperless initiative that eliminates the need for paper receipts. The app operates through e-receipts (sent by merchant partners) and smart receipts (created by manually capturing an image of the paper receipt on the app), which are securely archived in the personal account of the users on the Invoiz cloud server, and can be viewed in real-time.
Digital receipts are stored in the user's accounts for a period of three years. The app is free to download and is available on both iOS and Android platforms. The paperless platform interfaces seamlessly with the merchant's back end, made possible through the Invoiz API.
"Without disclosing any personal details like a mobile number or email address, a customer scans his QR code (visible on Invoiz) at the cash register of an Invoiz partner outlet and receives the e-receipt instantly," added Ribeiro.
While several retailers have resorted to sending digital receipts, it has been observed that when sent to a customer's email, it is easily lost in the matrix of emails, making it sometimes untraceable.
