Al Ain, March 6th, 2006 (WAM) -- Under the patronage of Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al-Nahayan Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the International Conference on the Recent Advances in Diabetes Mellitus and its Complications will start its sessions here tomorrow.
The event which is organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences United Arab Emirates University will continue till 9th March. Invited speakers to the conference include a host of internationally renowned diabetes scientists, academics and researchers. Professor Clive Cockram, Vice President of Internatinal Diabetes Federation (IDF), Prof. Eberhard Standl Vice President of the European Association of the Study of Diabetes (EASD) who will lecture on "Inhaled insulin: Promises and potential problems". Professor Philip Home Department of Diabetes and Metabolism, The Medical School, Framlington Place ,Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, will lecture on "Insulin Analogues and modern insulin therapy" while Professor Andrew Boulton University of Manchester, Manchester, UK, will lecture on "Diabetes and foot disease". Other papers and lectures will focus on various themes, such as "Old and new cytokines in the pathogenesis of type I diabetes", Subcutaneous pancreatic tissue grafts in experimental diabetes". Participant researchers highlighted the increasing diabetes rate among pregnant women in UAE, the effect of vitamin C on islet morphology in diabetic rats, remodeling of sympathetic noradrenergic, the role of vitamin C in improving metabolism stabilizers in diabetic patients.Int'l Conference on Recent Advances in Diabetes Mellitus&Complications starts tomorrow
