Dubai: The Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai has announced that it will host an elite group of renowned Quran reciters from across the Muslim world during the month of Ramadan.
Hamad Al Shaibani, director general of the department, said it would hold Quran recitation during prayers as well as the night prayers (Taraweeh) daily at the Al Rashidya mosque.
The Quran readers will include the previous imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Sa’ad Saeed Al Gamdi, the imam of Al Furkan mosque in Jeddah, Abu Bakr Shatri, and the imam of Bajaber mosque in Jeddah, Idris Mohammad
Other reciters will include Abd Al Wali Al Arkani, imam of Al Akhdar mosque in Jeddah, Adel Ahmad Ryan, imam of Al Yasser mosque in Jeddah, and Mansour Al Zahrani, imam of Abdullah Al Muneer mosque in Damam.
Shaikh Khalifa Tunaiji and Shaikh Jasem Al Amiri from the UAE, Shaikh Nasser Al Khatami from Riyadh, and Shaikh Mohammad Mubarak from Bahrain will also take part in the Ramadan event.
In its third year the event, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will celebrate the days and nights of the holy month with Islamic lectures, Quran recitation and night prayers.
The schedule of lectures, lessons and prayers timings will be revealed several days before the start of Ramadan.
