Damascus - Information Minister, Omran al-Zoubi said the aggression on Syria seeks ''to bring down the flag of Palestine in Damascus as it means the fall of Arabism, Islam, resistance and the national and pan-Arab values it represents.''
Speaking at al-Baath Dialogue Forum in Damascus University on Monday, al-Zoubi affirmed that ''plotters seek to make political gains through the international conference on Syria 'Geneva II', having failed to do so through terrorism and crimes.''
Minister of Awkaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed said ''Islam is innocent of the wahhabi takfiri thought,'' indicating that ''the concept of Jihad'' marketed by takfiri groups is built on wrong rules.''
He said the colonial countries; mainly Britain, found it imperative to forge a religious-political alliance in the region to protect its interest. ''Hence, it installed the Saudi family as rulers and founded the Wahhabi movement to issue fataws that suit their interests.''
The takfiri campaign against Syria, clad in the mantle of Islam, has reached scholars ''whose sacrifices have helped reinforce Syria's steadfastness,'' he affirmed.
Member of the Regional Leadership of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party, Dr. Khalaf al-Miftah underlined the necessity of turning the spotlight on takfiri thought as it jeopardizes the whole world.
He called for working out a strategy to counter this phenomenon for warding off its negative impacts on society and accentuating national identity.
Dr. Mohammad Tawfik al- Bouti, the Chairman of the Levant ( Bilad al-Sham) Scholars Union, said ''differences are usually worked out by logic dialogue, not killing.''
He indicated that the takfir (declaring the other an infidel) is intended to liquidate resistance and target Syria.
Al-Baath Dialogue Forum was organized Monday by Damascus branch of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party under the title of ''Takfiri Thought and its Impact on National Unity.''
