The Indian Republic Day Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira 2005 (poetry recital session) was held recently under the patronage of Y.K. Sinha, Consul General of India, at the Shaikh Rashid Auditorium of the Indian High School.
The event was well attended by poetry enthusiasts.
The programme began with a welcome address by chief organiser Syed Salahuddin.
Poets who participated included Anwar Jalal Puri, AZM Shakiri, Haq Kanpuri, Hassan Kazmi, Dr Kalim Qaiser, Rehana Shaheen, Dr Malikzadah Manzoor, Dr Nawaz Deobandi, Sardar Panchi, Shabeena Adeeb, Syama Singh Saba, Som Thakur, Sunil Kumar Tang, Dr Urmalesh, Dr Sarwat Zohra, Anwar Afaqi, Rehana Rehan and Professor Wasim Barelvi.
The programme was conducted by Anwar Jalalpuri and presided over by Sudhir Vyas, Ambassador of India.
Many prominent personalities came from India to enjoy the occasion.
