New Delhi, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- India and Israel discussed late last night the situation in the Middle East following Hamas' victory in the Palestinian elections as well as the crisis arising out of the Iran nuclear issue.
Israel's visiting National Security Adviser Maj. Gen. (retired) Giora Eiland and his Indian counterpart M.K. Narayanan held wide-ranging discussions on these issuesat New Delhi.
Mr. Eiland, who is on a three-day visit to India, also met Indian Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran and discussed bilateral issues.
Talking to KUNA on Thursday, Indian Foreign Ministry officials said, "The issues covered during the meetings were bilateral, security perspectives (regional and global) and developments in South Asia, West Asia and North Africa, and the Gulf."
Israel expressed its concerns about the Middle East peace process after Hamas, won the Palestinian polls.
Mr. Eiland also expressed Israel's concerns about Iran's nuclear brinkmanship and sought India's support over the issue, the officials said.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is scheduled to vote today on a proposal to refer the Iranian nuclear case to the UN Security Council.
Mr. Eiland, who is in India for a Indo-Israel strategic dialogue, is holding discussions today with India's special envoy for the Middle East Chinmaya Gharekhan.
