ABU DHABI (Zawya Dow Jones)--India expects to generate 1300 megawatts, or MW, of electricity from solar power by the end of the year, with 800 MW already being developed, India's minister of new and renewable energy said in Abu Dhabi Monday.

"We have 800 megawatt given already to the developer, and the rest of the 1300, which we need to do by the next three years, we will complete by the end of the year," Farooq Abdullah told a renewable energy conference in the U.A.E. capital.

India has brought down the price of the unit of solar energy to 12 Indian rupees ($0.26) from INR18, Abdullah said. "The price of those photovolts is coming down," he said. "Unless we give them those subsidies, it won't be possible."
