OEPPA's two-day workshop on Strategic Development for Future Leaders concludes on a positive not
MUSCAT -- "I am a champion, I am a success!" The two day workshop on Strategic Development for Future Leaders concluded with the room full of attendees repeating unanimously and energetically after Emeritus Professor Dato Dr Shaik Omar Abdul Rahman, Principal consultant SOAR Consulting Malaysia. Several government and private sector organisations participated in the workshop. Dr Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Kindy, CEO of Oman Establishment for Press, Publishing and Advertising, said it is extremely important to have such training programmes to build the employees of an organisation to have a sense of belonging and ownership.
The concluding event was held under the auspices of the Minister of Information Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani. "We appreciate Dr Shaik Omar Abdul Rahman's technique of presentation as the attendees have been enjoying the sessions. There is a critical need for scientific management. We need people who can make decisions as leaders within the organisations no matter what their role is in the organisation." "We often have conflicts between job specifications and what we execute," said Dr Al Kindy. "Producing results is not all about planning. Eighty to Ninety per cent of all planning fail because of poor execution. The culture of execution is what we are talking about. When you execute you are doing it with your heart and mind," enthused Dr Abdul Rahman.
"I always say you not only bring your hands and feet to your workplace but your mind and heart should be in place as well. This is what gives results," said the renowned speaker. Dr Abdul Rahman speaking to the audience said it is important to be the experts in the chosen field but it is also a must to have the energy and excitement as you work in an organisation. "It is not just about acting and planning but having empathy. Being ethical is the core of honour. Nobody should lose out because of you," pointed out Dr Abdul Rahman. He concluded the workshop by defining, 'Power.'
• Power is the ability to take action. "You do your best. And God will do rest. Just by thinking about a situation it is not going to happen. One has to act upon it," explained Dr Abdul Rahman.
• Power is the ability to put things into motion.
• Power is the ability to make it happen.
He pointed out how there are 'starters' in the world -- people who have the ability to begin projects but they are not necessarily 'finishers'. "It is important to be a 'finisher'. That is the only way to sustain. You have to be a starter and a finisher. Ali Suleiman Khalil, HR Senior Specialist at TRA, thanked the speaker on behalf of all the attendees. One of the attendees, Arafat Yasser al Hinai, HR Manager at Khimji Ramadas, said it was enlightening to observe the skills that need to be developed in handling people. The workshop also included a session on non verbal communications. Social contributors and volunteers were invited to attend the leadership course free of cost as OEPPA's commitment to the society. The event was organised by the Studies and Research Department at OEPPA.
