DOHA: The Hyatt Plaza mall has tied up with the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) to organise a series of social and charitable activities during the holy month of Ramadan. For the third year in a row, Hyatt Plaza will host Fast-a-thon, a charity drive to help the needy people in Niger.

The event will take place on July 21. QRC will donate QR200 to the people of Niger on behalf of every individual who participates in the event. Participants should be non-Muslims and have the option to register through Hyatt Plaza website, fax, email or in person at the customer service department of Hyatt Plaza.

"Last year we had participants from 19 countries and from different religions. So we believe Fast-a-thon, in every sense, promote universal brotherhood and creates a platform for people from various cultures to come together and join hands for a noble cause," said Fuad Shaqadan, Hyatt Plaza's assistant marketing manager.

Details about the event will be given to the participants during an orientation event to be held in the fashion avenue (near gate 2) on July 19 at 4pm. A free Iftar party for all participants will be organised at Hyatt Plaza food court area on July 21 at 6pm.

"The situation in Niger is extremely disheartening and it is the duty of the international community to help them during their worst days. We are joining hands with Hyatt Plaza to lend a helping hand to the people of Niger," said Adel Ali Al Baker of QRC.

Hyatt Plaza and QRC will also launch "Shop to Donate" campaign during the holy month. Participating outlets in the shopping mall have pledged to donate a portion of their earnings during the campaign to support charitable activities.

The shopping mall also has plans to hold Islamic lectures, Nasheeds, First Aid training and activities for children during the holy month.

Various competitions for children will be held over 10 days starting from July 25. Various government organisations, including Civil Defence and Hamad Hospital are supporting the event.
