DUBAI - HSBC Bank International, specialist provider of offshore financial services for the HSBC Group with its headquarters in the international financial centre of Jersey, Channel Islands, is planning to make its Dubai office a hub to service premier customers all over the Middle East region next year.

Sandeep Sachdeva, head of international personal banking wealth management, HSBC Bank International Limited, Jersey, who is currently visiting Dubai, told this correspondent: "In the next one year all our premier customers in the Middle East will be serviced through our Dubai office. Currently, we service most of our Middle Eastern clients out of Jersey."

Speaking about the size of investment, he said: "We are working out the numbers. The main investment is in terms of human resources and proper infrastructure. The number will grow once Dubai join others HSBC offshore banking hubs, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Johannesburg."

Sachdeva was speaking to this paper after the official opening of a new HSBC premier suite at its representative office in Jumeirah, Dubai. He said that with significant growth of the expatriate population in Dubai and the UAE, the HSBC Bank International office has more than doubled its staff since the office first opened three years ago.

The new suite is designed to enhance the bank's premium global banking services for expatriates and international customers in the region. It now includes a business lounge, business library, Bloomberg TV, as well as toll-free lines for telephone and Internet banking.
