Dubai: Joining the bandwagon of making the environment clean, power tools supplier Hilti on Tuesday announced it had collected seven tonnes of used power tools from its customers in the UAE.
The company, which operates four centres across the country, earlier mobilised its 70-strong sales force, asking customers mostly in the construction sector to hand over their old tools to help "create a cleaner environment in the UAE."
Customers who responded to the campaign were given a chance to buy new tools at bargain prices along with a three-year warranty.
In only two days the company collected a huge pile of almost 2,500 tools, mostly drills and breakers, said Rima Fallaha, Hilti marketing communications officer.
Response
"Some of those collected were not even Hilti brands. We were really surprised that a lot of people responded. They came with trucks," Fallaha told Gulf News.
She said all tools which are being collected will be scrubbed by ISO-certified Arabian Masters of Waste, according to the UAE's recycling law.
Hilti marketing director Hoang Tranthanh said the campaign is part of the company's larger strategy to develop a cleaner and safer working environment.
Fallaha also said that the company was a member of the Emirates Environmental Group and is committed to supporting the campaign to plant one million trees in the country.
"We're sponsoring 100 trees and have lined up more activities to do something for the environment," said Fallaha.
