Enhance effectiveness of second stage's components of low-income districts development programme, Polarise private investment in the inland regions.

CARTHAGE - President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali took interest, when conferring on Monday with Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi, in the progress of the low-income districts development programme.

In this connection, the Head of State enquired about the steps taken to complete the first stage of this programme which helped improve community infrastructure and facilities and develop productive activities in twenty-six concerned districts housing 166,000 inhabitants.

He also enquired about preparations for the start of this programme's second stage which touches on fifty-six districts and involves 200,000 inhabitants.

The President of the Republic instructed to guide project developers in these districts to ensure their sustainability and expand their employability, stressing the importance of ensuring maintenance of created community equipments.

He recommended to make the most of the conclusions reached from the implementation of this programme's first stage with a view to enhancing effectiveness of the second stage's components.

In another connection, the President of the Republic focused attention on the private investment incentives policy in regional development areas. In this context, he enquired about results of efforts exerted to improve business environment, increasing in this way the number of planned investments in the industrial sector up to 700 enterprises that generated some 17,000 jobs and setting up a growing number of renowned international companies in the textile, ready-to-wear and car components sectors, ten companies of which started operating in 2009 generating 7,500 jobs.

The Head of State recommended to carry on coaching investors settled in these areas and to provide assistance and facilitations to promoters preparing to set up companies and publicise opportunities and possibilities offered to polarise investment in the inland regions.
