The off-shore oil and gas field, Hasdrubal, located 106 kilometers off the coast of Sfax in the Gulf of Gabes, began production, announces a communiqué issued Wednesday by BG Tunisia Company (formerly British Gas), co-owner with the Tunisian Petroleum Activities Company (ETAP), of the concession for operating this important field.
Hasdrubal gas, some 100 million cubic feet per day, will be sold on the market equally with butane while oil and condensate will be exported from the oil port of Skhira. The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will be marketed by the Gabes storage unit while propane will be exported. The production of liquids and LPG will rise to 16 000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Production of this field will strengthen the position of the region of Sfax as the top gas producer in Tunisia (80% of the country's needs).
