Nizwa: Nizwa College of Applied Sciences organised the 'Harvest Week' last week. The programme was held under the slogan 'Sophisticated Society, and Conscious Youth' and had the participation of various activity groups in the college. On the first day, the Rover and Theatre groups organised video shows which talked about Oman's achievements.
A lecture titled 'Under the Microscope' was also held stressing on the issues that concern students as well as finding solutions. Another lecture titled 'I am a Genius' was delivered by Rover Imad Al Amiri who spoke about the importance of thinking and how to use one's talents. Among the other displays was a sketch titled 'Old Homeless' by Saleh Rahbi and Ibtisam Al Hadhrami.
On the second day, the media and arts groups presented a series of events. A discussion with Musa Al Frai, founder and general manager of Sablit Oman Forum, was the highlight of the day's show. Musa talked about the role of social networking sites in publishing news and its advantages and disadvantages. These groups also presented a sketch titled 'Mal Balash' which showcased the modern means of communication, especially 'whatsapp application', in a humorous light.
On the third day, the Ibn Duraid group introduced a series of poems by students including Abdul Hamid Kiyumi's works, which was followed by other Omani poets including Mohammed bin Edhi, Mazen Al Hadabi and Mater Al Briki.
On the fourth day, Islamic and cultural groups conducted a competition which aimed
to encourage and support talented students. The competition witnessed six students vying for 'the best singer' prize. Zuhair Al Ajmi won this competition.
