Abu Dhabi, Sep 08th, 2009 (WAM): Ruler's Representative in the Western Region HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended on Monday a lecture on 'Religion and Violence' hosted by the Ramadan Majlis of General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The lecture was delivered by the Professor of comparative religions at the Hassan II University in Casablanca, Morocco Dr. Mustafa Buhindi. Speaking on this occasion, Sheikh Hamdan stressed the prudent policy of peace adopted by UAE under the leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This policy, Sheikh Hamdan said, eradicates violence and enmity and extends bridges of cooperation among nations without interfering in their internal matters. He also emphasised the major role played by the Ramadan Majlis of General HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in encouraging dialogue, intellectual understanding and enhancing knowledge in spiritual and material spheres. The lecture was also attended by HH Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a number of Sheikhs, senior officials and guests. Giving an analysis of the Holy Scriptures, Professor Buhindi said that one of the paramount differences between Quran and other divine scriptures, which preceded it, is the style itself, as the Holy Quran is characterised by brevity, while other holy books are revealed in detail. This is why most of the commentators of Holy Quran legalised commentaries of the brief verses of Quran based on the detailed exposition of events narrated in Bible and other books, especially in the areas of stories that appear in the Quran, Buhindi noted. Quran was revealed testifying the scriptures which went ahead of it and emphasising the divine guidance and light they contained, said Buhindi. Stressing the need for understanding Islam in its true spirit of looking at the mankind as single humanity, Professor Buhindi also said that the differences in Faiths need not to drag anyone to enmity and warfare.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
