AMMAN - A government handpicked committee running a major bus operator in Amman will today return into service the company's entire fleet after a takeover, a senior official announced.
The panel, which has replaced the board of Al Mutakamilah Transportation (AutoBus) Company has completed all the measures required to resume transportation services to commuters following a two-week suspension after the company, citing contractual differences with Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), terminated its services.
Companies General Controller at the Ministry of Industry and Trade Bassam Talhouni told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, yesterday that 259 buses will be returned to all routes, adding that drivers and employees laid off will return to their jobs.
Around 1,000 people lost their jobs due to the company's decision to end its operations.
GAM had tried to take over the fleet and select local operators to run the facilities of Al Mutakamilah, whose former executive stood defiant before the ministry resorted to the Companies Law to take control.
