Muscat - H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower on Sunday signed 23 agreements worth RO1.49mn to train 533 citizens in various disciplines.

As many as 196 citizens have joined administrative fields (salesmen and cashiers) and 296 in technical areas, which include driving, operating heavy equipment, mechanical maintenance, fixing industrial equipment, welding work, electrical extension, vehicle maintenance, air conditioning, engine operator and vocational HSE officer.

Also, 41 citizens have joined the craft fields including cooking, reception, waiters and hotel clerks.

H E Dr Muna bint Salim al Jardaniyah, Undersecretary for Technical Education and Vocational Training in the Ministry of Manpower said that more than 51 such agreements have been signed this year.

The agreements covered more than 1,700 trainees at different levels in the private sector.

She added that the pact for the construction of an integrated building for the College of Technology in Ibri has been signed. The project includes building classrooms, administrative offices and computer labs, in addition to student accommodation. "The engineering building at the College of Technology in Ibri has been completed recently and is now ready to receive students," H E Dr Muna said.
