MUSCAT -- The Ministry of Health will today launch the Oman National Stroke Guideline, under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health.

Prepared jointly by the doctors from the Royal Hospital and the British Royal College of Physicians in London (RCP), it aims to improve the quality of care received by people who have a stroke.

Dr Jaber Al Khabouri, Chairman of the Omani side in preparation of the guideline and senior consultant neurologist at the Royal Hospital, said "the Guideline consists of an introduction and four chapters, first chapter regarding the programmes of treatment of the stroke, the second one on the provision of stroke care and provision of acute stroke services, the third one on the systems underlying stroke management and the fourth is about the rehabilitation of patients with a stroke".

The guideline will be circulated to different health institutions in the Sultanate in order to improve the provision of stroke care services, prevention and raising the level of rehabilitation of patients.
