MUSCAT -- A group of journalists from India is on a weeklong visit to the Sultanate on an invitation from the Ministry of Information to receive firsthand information about Oman's multi-faceted development in the past 39 years. Shruti Ravindran of Outlook magazine, Kavita Bajeli, Indian Asian News Service (IANS), Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, The Hindu, and Mohammed Anees, Malayala Manorma, have joined the growing list of journalists who are all praise for Oman's approach to development. The ministry hosted a dinner for them at Al Bustan Palace Hotel here yesterday. Earlier, the Indian Embassy hosted a dinner for them at Passage to India restaurant.
During the week, the journalists are scheduled to meet the Minister of Information Hamad bin Mohammed al Rashdi and key figures in the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Omani Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development. They will also visit Sohar and other key tourist and commercial spots in the Sultanate. Mohammed Anees of Malayala Manorma said he was happy to note that Oman has achieved all-round development in the past 39 years while at the same time keeping its culture and heritage intact.
Oman's keenness to maintain its cultural roots is discernible everywhere in the form of simplicity and elegance. Whether it is architecture, colour of buildings, dress of local people, absence of skyscrapers or cleanliness and greenery, everything in Oman seems to be speaking out loud and clear that "we are proud to preserve our age-old cultural values", the journalists told the Observer in an interview.
